Psychiatry Created for Women, by Women

Sunstone Psychiatry for Women was founded by Morgan Lewis DO and Jessica Benson MD to provide specialized mental health care for women throughout Pennsylvania. We recognized a growing need for psychiatric care that addresses the unique mental health experiences associated with reproductive and hormonal transitions.

As a women-led practice, Sunstone offers a thoughtful and personalized approach to psychiatric care rooted in compassion, connection, and clinical experience. We care for women and individuals seeking women’s mental health services who are navigating anxiety, depression, premenstrual dysphoric disorder, hormonal changes, motherhood, and major life transitions, with specialized experience in peripartum and perimenopausal mental health.

Diagnostic Evaluations

Every new patient visit begins with a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation designed to help us better understand your symptoms, personal history, hormonal health, lifestyle stressors, and goals. This assessment helps our team create a personalized treatment plan that reflects your unique needs, experiences, and priorities.

Medication Management

Medication can be an effective tool in supporting mental and emotional wellness. Whether you’re navigating fertility, pregnancy, postpartum recovery, hormonal transitions, or other significant life changes, we offer personalized treatment that supports your long-term wellness and goals.

Therapy

Our welcoming virtual space allows individuals to feel seen, heard, and understood. Through psychodynamic psychotherapy,  we help clients gain insight, strengthen their relationship with themselves, and develop practical tools to navigate life’s challenges with greater clarity, resilience, and confidence.

Support Through Every Stage of Womanhood

At Sunstone Psychiatry for Women our mission has always been to serve as a steady source of support for women in Pennsylvania. Too often, women are carrying the weight of stress from work, family, relationships, and daily life without the consistent emotional support they deserve. Womanhood brings both beauty and complexity, and our women-led team is dedicated to understanding the unique emotional and hormonal experiences that can shape mental health.

While our practice specializes in women’s mental health, we welcome individuals seeking care for reproductive, hormonal, and life-stage-related mental health concerns in a space where they feel seen, respected, and understood. We believe mental health care should support the whole person, not just their symptoms. By being intentional about caring for the mind, body, and experience of each patient we serve, we aim to provide a sense of stability and clarity.

We’re here to walk alongside you, helping you feel more grounded and empowered.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you specialize in women's mental health?

Yes. While we treat a broad range of psychiatric conditions, our particular expertise lies in women’s mental health and reproductive psychiatry — including preconception planning, pregnancy, postpartum care, premenstrual dysphoric disorder, disordered eating and body image concerns, difficulty regulating emotions and irritability, and the emotional and hormonal shifts of perimenopause and menopause.

We care for adult women (18 and older) throughout Pennsylvania and warmly welcome patients of all backgrounds, identities, sexual orientations, and gender expressions, including members of the LGBTQIA+ community. We also recognize that mental health challenges rarely affect just one person. We welcome men seeking care as well — particularly fathers navigating the transition to parenthood, partners supporting loved ones through reproductive transitions, and individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, or significant life changes.

We commonly work with individuals experiencing:

  • Peripartum & Perimenopausal Mental Health
  • Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder
  • Anxiety & Panic
  • Depression & Mood Disorders
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder & Perfectionism
  • Life Transitions & Adjustment Challenges
  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
  • Trauma-related Concerns
  • Burnout & Chronic Stress
  • Grief & Loss
  • Insomnia
  • LGBTQIA+ Mental Health
We offer psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and psychotherapy-informed treatment for women across the lifespan. Depending on your needs, care may include medication, psychotherapy, lifestyle interventions, or a combination of approaches.
All appointments are currently conducted via secure telehealth, allowing us to provide convenient, accessible care to patients throughout Pennsylvania. We anticipate opening an in-person office location in 2027 for those who prefer to be seen in person.
Yes. Due to licensing requirements, patients must be physically located within Pennsylvania at the time of each appointment.
Begin by completing our prospective patient inquiry form. We carefully review each submission to determine whether our practice is the right fit for your needs and will reach out regarding next steps and scheduling when appropriate.
The initial evaluation is a comprehensive assessment and an opportunity for us to understand your symptoms, history, goals, strengths, and current challenges. Together, we will develop an individualized treatment plan tailored to your needs.
Initial evaluations are typically 60 to 90 minutes. Follow-up appointment length varies based on your treatment needs and may include medication management alone or combined with psychotherapy.

Appointment frequency is individualized and determined collaboratively with your psychiatrist. Some patients benefit from more frequent visits during periods of active treatment, while others transition to less frequent check-ins once symptoms are stable.

Yes. As board-certified psychiatrists, we are able to prescribe psychiatric medications when clinically appropriate. Our goal is always to identify the most effective and least burdensome treatment approach for each individual.
All refill requests should be submitted through the patient portal during regular business hours, with at least one week of medication remaining. Requests are typically processed within two business days. We encourage patients to plan ahead to avoid any unintended lapse in medication.
Current patients may reach us through our secure patient portal. We make every effort to respond to all messages within two business days.
Sunstone Psychiatry for Women is an outpatient practice and does not provide crisis or emergency services. If you are experiencing a psychiatric emergency, having thoughts of harming yourself or others, or require immediate assistance, please call 911 or go to your nearest emergency department. You may also reach the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988.
To ensure timely access to care for all patients, we ask that appointment changes be made within the following timeframes:
  • Initial evaluations:  Cancellations or rescheduling requests made fewer than three business days before a scheduled initial evaluation will be charged the full appointment fee.
  • Follow-up appointments:  Cancellations or rescheduling requests made fewer than 24 hours before a scheduled follow-up appointment will be charged the full appointment fee.
  • Missed appointments:  Patients who do not attend a scheduled appointment without prior notice will be charged the full appointment fee. This policy applies to both initial evaluations and follow-up appointments.
We are a self-pay, out-of-network practice. Payment is due at the time of service. Upon request, we can provide a superbill that you may submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. We encourage you to contact your insurance provider directly to learn about your out-of-network mental health benefits.
Here are three questions to guide that conversation:
  1. Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits? If so, what is my out-of-network deductible, and has any of it been met for this benefit year?
  2. Once my deductible is met, what percentage of out-of-network mental health services will be reimbursed?
  3. Is there an out-of-pocket maximum for out-of-network mental health services, and does it apply to psychiatric care?
Our self-pay model allows us to offer highly personalized, physician-led care, free from the limitations often imposed by insurance. This means longer appointments, individualized treatment planning, and a more thoughtful, unhurried approach to your care.

We accept credit cards, debit cards, and HSA/FSA cards. Payment is due at the time of service.

We anticipate adding ACH bank transfers as a payment option soon.
